Wind energy is the future. Off-shore wind turbines have higher yields than on-shore wind turbines. Below the surface is a small dose of technical ingenuity. The steel foundation under a wind turbine has impressive dimensions – these tubes can extend to 120 metres in length and have an average diameter of between nine and eleven metres.
From engineering to rolling and welding, these enormous steel pipes take a lot of technical knowledge and expertise. That’s where strong teamwork comes in. Together, we produce around 200 tubes every year. Every foundation is unique, tailored to its position at sea, and weighs an average of 1500 tonnes.
Sif was founded by Jacob Schmeitz in 1948. Sif is a long-standing family business that makes tubular steel structures, including pressure vessels. We are proud of our history and the 75 years of experience that we have amassed, making us a pioneer in the industry.
We now dedicate ourselves almost exclusively to the supply of steel monopile tubes for off-shore wind farms. We do this with 600 specialists at two production sites in the Netherlands – Roermond and Maasvlakte 2 in Rotterdam. Sif has been a listed company since 2016.
